Huenyan government thwarts Xiomeran nationalist plot
In a series of raids throughout Huenya today, the Federal Police detained dozens of ethnic Xiomerans who are accused of planning an attempt to overthrow the Huenyan government and reassert Xiomeran control over the state.
"The Federal Police Service, in cooperation with the Intelligence Service, acted on multiple tips we have received over the past few weeks," Vice-Speaker Tiacihitli told the media today. "Any attempt to reverse the emergence of the Huenyan state, or the efforts of this government or our TRC, will not be tolerated. Those who would plot to restore the tyranny of the past will face the full might of the Huenyan state and will see justice done."
The Federal Police Service issued a statement pointing out the fact that, despite the apparent involvement of a large number of ethnic Xiomerans in the alleged plot, that many of the tips that were received came in from other Xiomerans. "While it is troubling that some of Xiomeran descent continue to seek to cling to the injustice of the past, it must be made clear that the great majority of Huenyans, of all backgrounds, are united in our national mission to build an inclusive state based on the foundation of equality under the law," the statement said.
Speaking from Chuaztlapoc after the raids, Cihuātlahtoāni Yauhmi was more direct. "As both the leader of the Huenyan Federation and as its representative for the Xiomeran people in our government, I have this to say to anyone plotting to bring back the old days: the past is dead, and you had best get over it. Anyone seeking to bring back those days will be not just my enemy, but the enemy of the Huenyan people and of this Federation."
Huenyan officials also accused the government of the Xiomeran Empire of providing direct and indirect support for the alleged plot, a claim which was dismissed by Xiomeran officials. "The incompetence of the separatist government, and its inability to convince people to buy into its rainbows-and-unicorns pipe dreams, is no fault or doing of ours," a spokesperson for the Imperial government told DTNS.
Huenyan government announces international competition
The Huenyan government announced today that it would solicit international bids to design and build buildings in a new "federal district" to be built west of Chuaztlapoc, to house the new Federal government.
Among planned structures in the new federal district will be a capitol building to house the Federal Legislature, an "embassy row" for international embassies, office buildings for the Federal government and its various departments, and official residences for the Vice-Speaker and the royal family. New headquarters buildings for the Federal Police and the defense forces are also planned. Architects and design firms from throughout the IDU are invited to submit bids to the Huenyan government for proposed designs.
While the Huenyan government has put forth an ambitious plan for the new federal district, what is not yet clear is how they will fund the project. The nascent Federation is still recovering from the civil war which led to its birth, and the "scorched earth" withdrawal of the Xiomeran Empire, which has crippled the Huenyan economy. Huenyan officials indicated that they may seek the assistance of the Global Development Investment Bank, as well as aid from nations friendly to Huenya, to help fund the project. The Huenyan government has also indicated that it may attempt to tap into partnerships with the private sector, both locally and internationally, to help bring the project to fruition. "The government is currently operating out of whatever space we can find in Chuaztlapoc, which is simply not designed to be a seat of government," Secretary of Public Works Temalpan told the media. "While it will be hard to complete, a new capital for Huenya has to become a reality for the long-term functioning and success of this government. It is also something that will unite our people, and give the Federation a symbol to show the world."
