Family of former emperor continues to claim throne from Serriel
From their exile in Serriel, the family of former Xiomeran Emperor Xochiuhue has issued a blistering condemnation of the recently signed Jinyu Agreement. They have also sharply criticized the current Xiomeran ruler, Empress Calhualyana, for signing it.
"The so-called Jinyu Agreement represents nothing more than the giving away of the Empire for a weak peace agreement, in order for the current usurper to keep her throne," Capantzina, the widow of Xochiuhue, said. "The true servants of the Empire will never accept this agreement, and will never accept those who agreed to sign on to this wholesale betrayal of the Empire and its people." One of Xochiuhue's sons, Tlacatli, is being promoted by the family as the legitimate ruler of Xiomera. The other son of Xochiuhue, Teoctli, went missing in the aftermath of Xochiuhue's overthrow by Calhualyana near the end of the Second Xiomeran Civil War and is presumed dead. Xochiuhue's family have accused the current Xiomeran government of killing Teoctli, and claim that the current Xiomeran government and its security forces are still trying to eliminate the remaining members of Xochiuhue's family. "As long as we are alive, Calhualyana is not the legitimate ruler of Xiomera, and she knows it," Tlacatli told reporters today.
In their luxurious asylum, the remaining members of Xochiuhue's family have declared Tlacatli as the new Emperor, and have formed a government in exile. This government is not recognized by the international community, nor by Xiomera itself. "The remaining relatives of the incompetent and insane former Emperor can live out their fantasy government in Serriel if they wish, but the second they attempt to make that a reality in Xiomera, they will face Imperial justice," Minister of Justice Cuicanan warned in response to the family's statement. "We removed Xochiuhue from power, and from life, for a reason. We will not tolerate even the suggestion of renewing the mayhem and the madness that was his brief and unlamented reign."
Despite these warnings, the family of the former Emperor continues to build their shadow government, and have reportedly been soliciting mercenaries and other armed individuals to possibly launch a bid to retake power. The family's dreams of regaining power, however, are a long shot at best. The political movement seen as loyal to Xochiuhue's family, the Imperial Glory Party, has been banned in Xiomera following a failed counter-coup. Polling in Xiomera has consistently shown that Tlacatli only has support in the low single digits, with his father's previous mad reign clearly tainting the son's future ambitions.
