Texōccoatl prepares to take the oath of office

In a brief coronation ceremony at Xochuaxte Palace this morning, Texōccoatl was officially crowned as the new Great Speaker of the Huenyan Federation.

Taking the official title of "Sovereign of the Huenyan Federation and of the Xiomeran Government in Exile," Texōccoatl pledged to ensure the continued unity of the Huenyan state and protect it from what he described as "ongoing threats."

"The future of the Huenyan Federation lies in our continued unity, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that all Huenyans, regardless of background or beliefs, will be fairly and equally represented, and that we all have a hand in guiding this new nation of ours forward as we build a lasting, democratic state," Texōccoatl told the crowd gathered at the palace.

The ceremony was likely kept short for two reasons. Texōccoatl is widely known to be someone who likes to jump right into a task, and there are many urgent tasks facing the new Huenyan leader. The abrupt departure of Yauhmi as the Great Speaker has unsettled the already chaotic Huenyan political scene. With pivotal first elections looming in just six months, Texōccoatl will have to work quickly to stabilize Huenya.

Texōccoatl is widely expected to lead Huenya in a much more cooperative and collaborative way than his predecessor, his mother Yauhmi. "The Huenyan people love and revere Yauhmi as the person who helped lead us to independence, but her tendency to unilateral actions did make her unsuitable for a leadership role," Ahuacoac, an advisor to Vice-Speaker Tiacihitli, told DTNS. "Texōccoatl is far more willing to work with others in making decisions, and that characteristic alone will serve him well in this new role."
